Must-see gallery shows and museum exhibits are running all season long, and you can even attend the art shows in style when you shop at Woodbury Common Premium Outlets via our exclusive Woodbury shuttle from NYC. So, let’s tap into our artistic side; here are the best NYC art exhibitions to see this fall.

1. The Armory Show:

September 6-8, 2024
One of the best NYC Art Exhibitions to see this fall is the Armory Show, and although this show recently came to a close, it received quite the warm welcome at New York’s iconic Javits Center. Founded in 1994, the Armory Show plays a pivotal role in NYC art culture with elevated presentations, programming, and curatorial leadership; the Armory Show brings forth incredible international contemporary/modern art galleries to NYC each year.
The Armory Show: The Solo Section

The thought-provoking 2024 galleries featured mesmerizing solo-artist, dual-artist, and thematic presentations. The Solo section was dedicated to intimate works by an emerging/established single artist in the 20th or 21st century; the Focus section encapsulated the histories of the fair’s origin; the Presents section highlighted emerging galleries that are no more than ten years-old; and the Platform section explored overarching themes through site specific works and large-scale installations.

If you’re sad that you couldn’t make it to this year’s Armory Show, do not fret; there’s still more amazing exhibits to catch this season!

Breaking Out: The Bronx Museum Futura 2000

2. The Bronx Museum Futura 2000

September 8, 2024- March, 2025
The Bronx Museum Futura 2000 is most definitely one of the best NYC art exhibitions to see this fall. The fascinating exhibition, Breaking Out, explores the five-decade career of the innovative artist, Futura 2000, who was born and raised in NYC. This coming-of-age exhibit takes you on a journey through Futura 2000’s work that dates back to the 1970’s and continues to the present day. Breaking Out showcases his sculptures, drawings, prints, collaborations, studies, and archival paraphernalia. Futura 2000 continues to draw inspiration from science fiction and the space age, where he utilizes spray paint to create abstract cosmic compositions on canvas. Breaking Out aptly refers to the artist’s groundbreaking 1980 piece, Break, where he painted the full exterior of a NYC subway car (in bold color with no lettering), which was a first for the graffiti art movement. Plus, Futura 2000 used to watch Break trains pass by in the Bronx, not too far away from the Bronx Museum. (Gotta love a full circle moment, right?)

3. The Edges of Ailey

September 25, 2024 – February 9, 2025
If you love to immerse yourself in the world of dance, you will absolutely want to stop by the Whitney Museum of American Art to see the Edges of Ailey. In the museum’s fifth-floor galleries, an immersive exhibition will depict rarely-seen material such as performance footage, notebooks, letters, poems, short stories, choreographic notes, drawings, recorded interviews, performance programs, and posters from Ailey’s archives. Artwork from over eighty artists will be on display as well; artwork that has helped shape Ailey’s life and dances. Meanwhile, in the museum’s third-floor theater, visitors will be able to watch intimate performances by the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, and the legend himself will be in attendance for one week each month.
